Gluten-Free Roux Recipe

This gluten-free roux recipe works with any gluten-free flour blend.
Use it for all of your gluten-free soups and sauces!

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoon gluten-free flour
  • 2 cups (480ml) liquid (milk, chicken stock, etc.), optional

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Whisk in the gluten-free flour.
  • Continue whisking for 2-3 minutes (to cook off the raw flour taste).
  • Proceed with the desired recipe.

Notes

Gluten-Free: Use any gluten-free flour blend you like! You don't even have to use a measure-for-measure kind.
To Make-Ahead: This roux is best used fresh. The good news is it only takes about 5 minutes!
To Store: Store leftover cooled roux in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently and whisk to recombine. The texture may differ from the fresh roux.
To Freeze: Freezing is not recommended.
