Ingredients You’ll Need
Here are a few notes on some of the key ingredients to make this smashburger sauce. Jump to the recipe card below for the exact measurements.

- Yellow onion: Grating the onions adds freshness and texture to the sauce. Sometimes we grill onions on the Blackstone before cooking burgers too!
- Condiments: Most are naturally gluten-free, but it’s always good to double-check labels. The main one you’ll need to look out for is the Worcestershire sauce. This article may help: “Is Worcestershire Sauce Gluten-Free?”
How to Make Smashburger Sauce
Here’s an overview of how to make this recipe. You can jump to the recipe for the full instructions!

Grate some yellow onion and throw it in a small bowl with all of the condiments. Stir and enjoy, this sauce is as simple as that!
When I make smashburgers, I like to divide the sauce into two bowls. I use half on the burgers while they’re on the grill so that the sauce caramelizes straight into the patties. I use the other half when assembling the burgers before serving. This combo creates the most amazing flavor!

Question. Worcestershire sauce has gluten in it. I thought I clicked on a gluten-free site for smash burgers. What can be used instead?
Hi Bon, not all brands of Worcestershire sauce contain gluten. For example, the Lea & Perrins we use is labeled gluten-free. Here is an article with more information on gluten-free Worcestershire options. Hope this helps!
