Ingredients You’ll Need
Here’s what you’ll need to make this fruit salad:

- Honeydew melon: Honeydew is a mild, sweet melon that is a perfect compliment to the berries in the fruit salad. It’s a pale green color that almost looks white, so it’s perfect for making star shapes! You could also use watermelon slice to create these stars, but I like the look of the white melons.
- Strawberries: Sweet strawberries provide a nice red color that goes well with the Fourth of July theme. I like using sliced strawberries that are cut lengthwise into halves or quarters.
- Raspberries: Raspberries are another essential fruit for this red, white, and blue fruit salad! Fresh is best!
- Blueberries and blackberries: For the blue fruit, I like using juicy blueberries and blackberries. The combination adds more variety to the texture and flavor. But you can use one or the other, if you prefer.
- Limes: Always use freshly squeezed lime juice for this fruit salad. It’s much more flavorful than bottled lime juice.
- Honey: Honey balances the tartness of the berries and brings out even more of the sweetness. IT’s the secret to AMAZING fruit salad!

FAQs
Fruits like pears, bananas, and peaches can become brown and mushy when cut up and combined with other fruits. For this reason, it’s best to avoid adding them to a fruit salad. It’s also best to avoid fruits that have pits (like cherries) and dried fruit should also be avoided.
You can add lemon juice or lime juice to fruit salad to keep it from turning brown. You can combine the acidic juice with honey and zest to create a fruit salad “dressing”, or just squeeze the juice over the top of the salad and toss to combine. For optimal freshness, it’s always best to prepare fruit salad just before eating.
Fruit salad can be made of many different types of fruits, including melons, berries, grapes, and more. Ideally, you should avoid fruits that could turn brown or mushy, such as pears, nectarines, peaches, or bananas. Otherwise, get creative and add your favorite fruits. Some of the most popular fruit salad combinations include raspberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon.
