Ingredients You’ll Need

Here’s what you’ll need to make this chocolate drizzle popcorn.

Chocolate drizzle popcorn ingredients on a countertop
  • Chocolate chips: Chocolate chips add a bit of sweetness and delicious chocolate flavor to the popcorn. I’m using dark chocolate but milk or semi-sweet would work as well. Feel free to use what you have on hand. Just make sure it’s a good-quality brand! I don’t recommend using candy melts instead of chocolate chips — you won’t get the same rich chocolate flavor. • Popcorn: I prefer the light and fluffy texture of Orville Redenbacher Original Popcorn, but any popcorn kernels will work!
  • Salt: Salt helps balance out the sweetness of the chocolate. I like to use kosher salt, but if you’re using table salt, reduce the amount to ¼ teaspoon.

How to Make Chocolate Popcorn

Popcorn in a pot
  • (Optional) If you have an air popper, use the kernels and pop according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • If you don’t have an air popper, heat a large nonstick pot over medium heat. Add the kernels and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Shake the pot occasionally until the kernels start popping. Then continue shaking the pot until popping is about 5 seconds apart. Remove the popcorn from the heat and pour it onto a rimmed baking sheet that is lined with parchment paper. (Arrange popcorn in a single layer so that every piece gets a nice chocolate drizzle.)

FAQs

What is the trick to drizzle chocolate?

The trick to easily drizzling chocolate is to make sure it’s perfectly melted through. Overheated chocolate becomes dry and crumbly, while underheated chocolate will be clumpy. To avoid overheating, place the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30-second intervals, stirring between each one, until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Then use a spoon to immediately drizzle over popcorn, cookies, fruit, and more.

Can you drizzle melted chocolate?

Yes, melted chocolate drizzle is a great way to enhance a wide number of sweet and savory snacks. You can drizzle chocolate over popcorn, cookies, brownies, ice cream, strawberries, apples, crackers, or nuts. You can also drizzle peanut butter, white chocolate, and Nutella!

How do you thin melted chocolate for drizzling?

If your melted chocolate is too thick to drizzle, you can thin it out by adding melted coconut oil or vegetable oil. Add just a teaspoon or so at a time until the chocolate reaches the desired consistency.
