Ingredients You’ll Need

Here’s what you’ll need to make Snickers popcorn at home:

Snickers ingredients on a countertop
  • Chocolate chips: Chocolate chips add sweetness and help the salt stick to the popcorn. I’m using semi-sweet chocolate since the Snickers bars have so much sugar. But any chocolate would work. Feel free to use what you have on hand!
  • Snickers: You’ll need chopped Snickers bars for this recipe. I find that it’s easiest to buy one or two king-size Snickers bars rather than having to unwrap lots of fun size Snickers. Chopped Snickers are the key to making Snickers popcorn! Make sure to chop the Snickers bars into small, bite-sized pieces so they stick to the popcorn.  You also might like this article on are snickers gluten-free.
  • Popcorn: I prefer using popcorn kernels for this recipe, rather than a bag of microwave popcorn! I’m using Orville Redenbacher Original Popcorn – but any popcorn kernels will work! To pop the kernels, you can use an air popper or a pot over the stove.
  • Peanuts: I love the salty crunch of peanuts with popcorn and chocolate and they really bring out the peanut flavor in the snickers! I like roasted, salted peanuts best for this recipe. Make sure they’re shelled! Check out this article on is peanut butter gluten-free.
  • Salt: Kosher salt is best for this recipe — it has a nice saltiness and texture that plays up the sweet and salty combination.

How to Make Snickers Popcorn

A pot of popped popcorn kernels
  • (Optional) If you have an air popper popcorn maker, use the kernels and pop according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • If you don’t have an air popper, heat a large nonstick pot over medium-high heat. When the pot is warm, pour in the kernels and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. While the kernels warm up, shake the pot occasionally to prevent burning.
  • When the kernels begin to pop, continue shaking the pot until the popping is about 5 seconds apart, then remove it from heat.
Melted chocolate in a glass bowl
  • Place the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30-second intervals, stirring between each one, until the chocolate is melted and smooth. (You could also melted over a double-boiler on medium heat.)
Popcorn on a baking tray
  • Pour the popcorn onto a rimmed baking sheet.
